The U for Who? Campaign

When you suffer, the students and patients you care for suffer. The U can and must do better. That’s why you coming together with your co-workers across campus and healthcare is the only way YOU can build the power to win a better University.

U FOR WHO Campaign Demands

Declare a Sanctuary Campus & Hospital

Prohibit ICE access to university facilities or records without a judicial warrant. Ban collaboration with immigration enforcement. Prevent police from inquiring about or sharing immigration status. Protect patient privacy. Guarantee healthcare for all without fear of interrogation or deportation.

Workers at the U demand that safe, sustainable, and equitable staffing and teaching ratios be reached and maintained.

  • Teaching loads and class sizes must be set in response to field-specific expertise, while respecting domain-based differences in pedagogy.
  • No increased workloads without additional compensation.
  • End hiring freezes and halt reckless roll out of shared services for staff.
  • Hire according to standards that are safe and equitable for workers, patients, students, and the community at large.

NO MORE DOING MORE WITH LESS!

We demand an end to the degrading practice of charging employees to work.

  • Administrators should fairly and evenly extend existing parking stipends to all workers at the U, and stipends should be indexed year-over-year to any increased parking costs.
  • The U should waive student fees fairly and for all its student workers.
  • SUPPORT OUR FAMILIES. Offer adequate, affordable childcare: real stipends and/or certified on-site care.

Demonstrate Real Leadership: Listen to WORKERS and students, not overpaid consultants like McKinsey and Huron

  • Demonstrate Real Leadership by listening to workers, not consultants.
  • Administrators are paid to manage this university—they should earn their paychecks and stop paying others to do their job
  • The U must end costly, wasteful contracts with for-profit consulting groups like McKinsey and Huron.

Stop outsourcing leadership.

We Demand University Management and Administration honor policy 5-100 and Meet and Confer with our union.

Policy 5-100 states that every employee has the right to joining a labor union and that University administrators and supervisors will meet and confer with that union.

By refusing to meet and confer with us as a labor union, they are breaking Policy 5-100. We demand quarterly meetings and real consultation on workplace issues. Relevant administrators are to consult with union representatives, as needed, on workplace issues like hours, compensation, discipline, reorganization, and grievances.

If leadership at the U fails to act, we must ask: Will U?

The U for Students

Because larger class sizes and workloads for professors mean a lower quality education for students.

The U for Workers

Because when workers are underfed, over-stressed, under-staffed, financially insecure, and without reliable access to housing, transport, or medical care, their ability to serve their constituents suffers.

The U for Patients

Because safe staffing ratios mean better care for the patients under our care.
